The Virus Protection of Chiropractic Care

 July 6, 2010

How many of you are thinking, “Whaaatt?!?  I didn’t know chiropractic care had an effect on immunity at all.

I’m here to tell you it’s true folks.  There are numerous studies that show chiropractic boosts different immune functions.

The first place to start is at the one of the most difficult viruses, HIV.  A 1994 study on the effects of chiropractic care on HIV patients’ immunity sponsored by The Rand Corporation concluded “that chiropractic care has great possibilities to boost immune function.”  Another study performed by Patricia Brennan Ph.D.  showed a 200% increase in immune competence for chiropractic patients vs. the normal population and a 400% increase in the same immune competence vs. cancer patients.  A study published in The Chiro Research Journal showed a 48% increase in CD4 cell counts compared to nearly an 8% drop in the control group.  Nathaniel Altman notes in the book Psyco-immunity and the Healing Process, “Chiropractic alignment of the body, specifically to alleviate stress and tensions placed on the medulla oblongata and the coccyx, is important in cases of AIDS and immune dysfunction. Chiropractic adjustments are recommended to open up neurological pathways to help restore the proper functioning of the nervous and endocrine systems of the body.”

The next this I would like to discuss is the role of chiropractic in your defense against the flu virus.  I would pose a question to all reading as follows; How did chiropractors first get licensed?  The answer will surprise you.  It goes back to the Great Flu Pandemic of 1917-18.  The Official History of Chiropractic by Walter Rhodes, DC shows that chiropractors had great success in treating people with the flu while the medical community had very little success.  The numbers generally reflect that nationally 1 out of every 15 people treated medically for the flu in 1917-18 died.  Nationally people treated with chiropractic during the same pandemic outbreak showed only one in 889 people died while treated with chiropractic care.  There are more specific statistics from specific localities available if you follow the link to The Official History of Chiropractic.

After seeing the evidence and from my own clinical experience I would tell you that chiropractic care should be part of your defense plan against viruses such as the flu.  Chiropractic care boosts your immunity, improves nervous system function and corrects your biomechanics.  We may all benefit from having our nervous system functioning properly.

Please let me know what you think.  I’d love to hear your feedback.
